Zah Technologies

Basalt-thread rebar that outperforms steel

About

Zah Technologies manufactures V-Bar, a basalt-thread rebar material that does not corrode, is stronger and lighter than steel, and is roughly the same price as traditional rebar. Currently being used to build seawalls in Florida as proof of concept, with expansion into other concrete structures underway.

The Problem

Steel rebar corrodes over time — particularly in coastal and marine environments — causing structural degradation, costly repairs, and shortened infrastructure lifespans. The construction industry lacks a direct-replacement material that solves corrosion without a significant cost premium.

Why V-Bar

  • Does not corrode — eliminates the primary failure mode of reinforced concrete
  • Stronger than steel — higher tensile strength per unit
  • Lighter than steel — reduces transportation and handling costs
  • Roughly equivalent price — drops in as a direct replacement without budget impact
